Bethami Dobkin

Bethami Dobkin, Ph.D. As the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of Saint Mary's College of California, Dr. Bethami Dobkin oversees the operational management of the College, with specific responsibility for academic affairs, enrollment, student affairs, and technology. She has served as Provost since 2008. Since that time, Saint Mary's College (SMC) has been recognized both for a transformative, liberal arts education provided to undergraduate students, as evidenced by SMC's inclusion in the 2013-2014 edition of Colleges that Change Lives, and for outstanding graduate and professional programs, recognized through achievements such as attainment of AACSB accreditation.

In 2014 and 2015, Dr. Dobkin was recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Bay Area's "Most Influential Women," and was named by Diablo Magazine as one of the "2013 Women to Watch." She serves as a Board Member for the American Council on Education's Fellows Program and is on the Board of Directors for Ujima Family Recovery Services. Dr. Dobkin is an editorial consultant for academic journals, and is regularly asked to speak on higher education administration and gender equity.

Dr. Dobkin also has a distinguished history in higher education as a faculty member and an academic leader. Before coming to Saint Mary's College, she served as Associate Provost of the University of San Diego and was a faculty member in the Department of Communication Studies for 17 years, where she achieved national recognition for her research and teaching in the area of media and conflict. Her honors have included a fellowship in executive leadership with the American Council on Education. Dr. Dobkin earned her doctorate in Rhetoric and Social Order and a master's degree in Rhetoric from the University of Massachusetts, and she received a bachelor's degree in Speech Communication from Humboldt State University.
