Lande Ajose

Lande Ajose, Public Member, is the Executive Director of California Competes: Higher Education for a Strong Economy. An expert in urban labor markets and higher education policy, Lande advocates for bold yet pragmatic policy improvements to equitably boost California’s postsecondary degree attainment. Over her career, she has examined education and employment issues from every angle: as an admissions officer at Vassar College, as a senior program officer at the James Irvine Foundation and as a researcher at MDRC of Achieving the Dream.  In 2014, Governor Jerry Brown appointed her to the California Student Aid Commission where she currently serves as Chair, and in 2016, the Governor appointed her to the Committee on Awards for Innovation in Higher Education.  She serves on several nonprofit boards, among them the Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP).  She holds a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master’s degree from UCLA. She did her undergraduate work at Occidental College.
