Commission Policy Update – Policy Changes

Institutional Litigation Policy

Following circulation to the region for comment, a revised version of the Institutional Litigation Policy has been approved by the Commission during its February 2020 meeting.

The policy has been revised to eliminate guidelines, since those seem best handled as part of evaluator team training, to clarify wording, to be inclusive of both US and international institutions in terms of reporting actions or investigations to WSCUC, and to change the title from “Matters under Litigation” to “Institutional Litigation.”

Legal Costs and Obligations Policy

Following circulation to the region for comment, a revised version of the Legal Costs and Obligations Policy has been approved by the Commission during its February 2020 Meeting.

The policy has been revised to clarify the language and make it more user friendly, to reorder the content to make it easier to read, and to indicate that implementation of the policy may require reconciliation with applicable governmental laws and regulations.

Commission Policy Update – Policy Retirements

Study Abroad Policy

This policy appears to be based on a very specific type of program and does not address the current broad array of study abroad opportunities that currently exist in colleges and universities.  Because it is not known when or why this policy was created and because it is rarely accessed, the Commission decided to retire this policy.

Overseas Educational Programs for Non-US Nationals Policy

It is not recorded when this policy was originally approved or if it has ever been revised. It is rarely accessed, and the language of this policy is out of date.  Considerations described in the policy are taken into account through the Substantive Change process for approval of new locations and in the process for international accreditation.  As a result the Commission decided to retire this policy.
