Transfer of Credit Policy

Following circulation to the region for comment, a revised version of the Transfer Credit Policy has been approved by the Commission during its June 2019 meeting.

Each institution is responsible for determining its own policies and practices with respect to the transfer and award of credit. The policy has been revised to better summarize key issues, to align the policy with WSCUC practice, and to update references to US Department of Education regulations and to a 2017 policy statement from the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), and the American Council on Education (ACE) on best practices in awarding transfer credit.

Institutional Appeals Policy

Following circulation to the region for comment, a revised version of the Institutional Appeals Policy has been approved by the Commission during its June 2019 Meeting.

The revised Institutional Appeals Policy states that adverse appealable actions are now posted immediately after a Commission decision, once the institution has been notified. In addition to revising the timing of posting adverse actions publicly, the Institutional Appeals Policy has been revised to address issues related to the composition of the Appeals Committee (to make it more independent), the number of committee members (change from nine to at least nine), and the number of panelists per review (reduced from five to three to make scheduling and hearings less cumbersome).  Also, to make the Institutional Appeals Policy easier to read and to flow logically, the content of the policy has been reorganized and a summary table of key actions has been added with deadlines.

Public Disclosure of Accreditation Documents and Commission Actions Policy

Following circulation to the region for comment, a revised version of the Public Disclosure of Accreditation Documents and Commission Actions Policy has been approved by the Commission during its June 2019 Meeting.

The language in the Public Disclosure of Accreditation Documents and Commission Actions Policy has been revised to post adverse appealable actions or sanctions within 24 hours of notification of the institution, which will take place within 30 days of the decision. Institutions are also required to post on their websites their status with WSCUC if a negative action has been imposed.
