• WSCUC Retains “Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” In Standards

    December 16, 2024 - WSCUC

In late November, WSCUC proposed a refinement to its Standards related to diversity, equity and inclusion to provide greater clarity for member institutions. The Commission’s goal in raising the possibility of this refinement was to strengthen the Standards and help move institutions from a commitment to concepts toward measurable action and results.

Feedback from WSCUC’s membership and interested organizations made clear that a deeper examination of any change would be necessary. Therefore, the institutional “commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion” will remain in all the Standards. We will continue to explore the most effective ways to affirm WSCUC principles and accountability while maintaining the current language and expectations.

The Commission reaffirms WSCUC’s historic, powerful, and enduring focus on fundamental principles of equitable success for all students. WSCUC’s principles of inclusive excellence and student success are embodied in its long-standing published mission:

WSCUC strives to advance quality and equitable student success across a range of higher education institutions and missions to foster inquiry, innovation, excellence, and sustainability through its dual responsibilities as an accreditor for accountability and continuous improvement.

WSCUC thanks its members and others who considered this subject and provided valuable feedback. Consistent with our policy and practice, we will continue to seek the input of member institutions, partners, and the public about strengthening WSCUC Standards and shaping the Commission’s direction.
