Robin Garrell

Robin Garrell, Retired President at the Graduate Center at CUNY. Previously the Vice Provost for Graduate Education, Dean of the Graduate Division and Professor of Chemistry and Bioengineering at the UC Los Angeles. In her roles as Vice Provost and Dean and as the principal investigator on NSF IGERT and AGEP grants, she has advanced diversity in STEM doctoral programs, developed innovative technology tools to support student success, and expanded professional and career development opportunities to prepare graduate students and postdoctoral scholars for diverse careers. A Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Garrell currently chairs its Committee on Opportunities in Science and is a member of the GRE Governing Board. She previously served as President of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy and chaired the UCLA Academic Senate and UCLA College Faculty Executive Committee. Recognitions include the UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award, UCLA Gold Shield Faculty Prize and NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award. Garrell holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Cornell University and M.S. and Ph.D. in Macromolecular Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan. She was on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh prior to her appointment at UCLA in 1991.
