President’s Message

Greetings, colleagues.

Whether it’s raining, snowing, or blooming where you are, spring brings a fresh chance to celebrate student achievement and plant new seeds. I’ve spent my winter serving as the negotiator representing institutional accreditors as part of a U.S. Department of Education (ED) process called “regulatory negotiation” (or sometimes “negotiated rulemaking”). I helped launch this model of collaborative policy development at ED exactly thirty years ago, so it’s fascinating to engage now on serious, complex issues including state authorization, distance education, student aid provisions, and especially the rules governing accreditation and accrediting agencies. Student success is at the heart of the work, along with development of effective protections and reasonable practices.

WSCUC’s recent student achievement endeavors include

• Today we announced the availability of post-graduation economic outcomes data in our Key Indicators Dashboard (KID). These relevant metrics add a new dimension to help institutions understand and foster students’ postgraduate success, supporting the new WSCUC 2023 Standards of Accreditation.
• Student success will take center stage on day two of our upcoming Accreditation Resource Conference. Continuing WSCUC’s signature commitment to “Better Conversations, Better Data,” the Student Achievement: Metrics that Matter plenary will highlight WSCUC’s own latest strategies for understanding and igniting student success and those of other leading pioneers in evidence for improvement.
• And we’re reimagining our Accreditation Leadership Academy (ALA) curriculum, digging deeper into inquiries and practices to help students succeed. Explore innovation, enhance your leadership and analytical skills, and join this proud ALA tradition. Applications for the ALA14 cohort open April 1.

KID Economic Outcomes Metrics

Post-graduation economic outcome metrics are now available on the Key Indicators Dashboard (KID) for member institutions with applicable data and include earnings by field of study and credential, and debt-to-earnings ratio for students four years after graduation who received federal financial aid and are working. Learn more.

 

WSCUC Seeks VP – Chief Learning Officer

WSCUC invites applications for Vice President – Chief Learning Officer to guide the agency’s vital accreditation review curriculum, design comprehensive educational programming, and manage a portfolio of institutions. Apply by Friday, April 5.

 

WSCUC Hosts Events for Institutional Leaders

Intuitional leaders gathered for Coffee with CEOs events and a virtual panel discussion on navigating third-party agreements.

 

Commission Policy Changes

The Commission approved updates to the substantive change policy, complaints and third-party comments policy, and accreditation records retention policy. The Commission also adopted new policies governing institutional response to team reports and peer reviewer training. Learn more.
