Description

Institutions of higher education traditionally create, internalize, and share knowledge, but it is less traditional to turn these processes inward in an integrated way. A learning institution is one that works to understand itself, and uses what it learns to improve. In this workshop facilitators will go into more depth on what it means for a higher education institution to be a learning institution, describe essential practices of a higher education learning institution, and provide strategies for how to develop and strengthen a culture of learning, evidence, and improvement. In addition, facilitators will demonstrate how the processes and activities in which a learning institution is engaged are connected to the accreditation process and how they inform the Meaning, Quality and Integrity of the Degree component of the self-study.

Workshop Outcomes
Through completing this workshop, participants will:

• Explore the meaning of a higher education learning institution
• Examine the role of key practices of higher education learning institutions, including:
  • Assessment of student learning
  • Program review
  • Co-curricular learning and assessment
  • Faculty development
  • Strategic planning
  • Resource allocation
• Connect elements of a higher education learning institution to the accreditation process

Intended Audience

This workshop is for faculty and staff campus leaders, especially those with responsibilities for assessment, program review, strategic planning, budget planning, and accreditation.

Hotel Reservations: We encourage participants to make their hotel reservations as soon as possible. Given the The Learning Organization workshop is being held on a campus, WSCUC has not contracted nor secured a group rate with any particular hotel. There are many websites online that help with finding reasonably priced hotels.

Registration: Registration fee includes lunch. Beverages and snacks will be available during breaks. Attendees will be on their own for all other meals.  

Registration fees: $300/per team member.  After the registration deadline, if space is available, the late registration fee will be $360/per team member.

Discount for Combined Registration: Program Review:Comprehensive and Sustainable Approaches for Educational Effectiveness will be offered on November 16, 2017 at USF. The special rate for a combined registration for Program Review and The Learning Organization is $525 until 11/1/2017. After the registration deadline, if space is available, the late registration fee will be $645 /per team member.

This educational program has been developed by national and regional experts and is offered as a service to WSCUC member institutions and others who wish to learn about good practices applicable to all institutions. It is entirely optional, and our hope is that member institutions will find it helpful. WSCUC staff will be present to answer questions related specifically to accreditation expectations.
