• WSCUC Strengthening Peer Review Process with Profile Updates

    February 27, 2025 - WSCUC

Peer reviewers across the WSCUC network are updating their expertise profiles to reflect their most current experiences and skills, ensuring that institutional review teams are made up of volunteer experts whose backgrounds align with the institutions they evaluate. WSCUC’s peer reviewer network includes more than 900 professionals representing a wide range of higher education institutions.

Selected for their expertise and experience, WSCUC peer reviewers play an essential role in assuring quality at WSCUC member institutions. Peer reviewers collaborate in small teams to review self-study reports, visit campuses, interview stakeholders, and assess an institution’s governance, finances, and student outcomes in accordance with WSCUC Standards. Their comprehensive findings inform the Commission’s accreditation decisions and support accountability and continuous improvement at WSCUC institutions.

WSCUC requires all peer reviewers to undergo formal training. Peer reviewer training is regularly evaluated to improve its effectiveness and ensure reviewers are well-prepared to conduct thorough evaluations.

Peer review is the cornerstone of the U.S. accreditation system, providing an expert-driven approach without imposing financial burdens on state and federal governments. Every year, approximately 320 peer reviewers contribute their expertise to WSCUC’s institutional review teams.
