The WASC Senior College and University Commission elected its 2022-2023 slate of officers, approved committee rosters, and thanked departing commissioners at its June 24, 2022, business meeting. The terms for new officers and five new commissioners began July 1.

Tracy Poon Tambascia, Professor of Clinical Education in the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California, was named Chair-Elect and will continue her role as Vice Chair. Additional officers are Treasurer Leo Martinez, the Albert Abramson Professor of Law, UC Hastings Law, and Secretary Monroe Gorden, Jr., Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, UCLA.

“The Commission has accomplished a great deal this past year, from setting our strategic goals, deepening our work on DEI and evidence, to significant movement in the review of our Standards,” said Commission Chair Phillip Doolittle, Executive Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer, University of Massachusetts Global (UMass Global), who is entering the third and final year of his term.

Chair-elect Tracy Poon Tambascia, who is also the inaugural chair of the WSCUC Equity and Inclusion Council, commented, “I’m grateful to serve on this Commission with such a committed group of education leaders, and look forward to our continued work in support of student success.”

New members of the Commission are:

• Archibald Asawa, Vice President for Finance and Administration and CFO, Soka University of America (Institutional Member)
• Jose A. Gomez, Executive Vice President, Provost and COO, California State University, Los Angeles (Institutional Member)
• Sharon Mayo, Senior Counsel, Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP (Public Member)
• Renee Navarro, Vice Chancellor of Diversity and Outreach, University of California, San Francisco (Institutional Member)
• Vivian Sanchez, CEO & President, University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (Institutional Member)

“The expertise and leadership experience of the chair-elect and new commissioners are vital as WSCUC furthers our commitments to equity and inclusion, effective use of evidence, and national and international scope,” said WSCUC President Jamienne S. Studley. “The commissioners completing their service have made important contributions to this work.”

Three members completed their terms on the Commission:

• Leanne Neilson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, California Lutheran University, who will continue as Chair, Standards and Handbook Review Committee
• Thomas Stewart, Vice Chancellor for (Social) Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, National University System
• Andrew Wallis, Professor of French and Director of International Programs, Whittier College
