Lance Askildson
Dr. Lance Askildson serves as Provost & Senior Vice-President and a Professor of Linguistics at Chaminade University of Honolulu. As Provost, Dr. Askildson leads Chaminade’s academic enterprise and institutional strategic planning and implementation. Prior to his role at Chaminade University, Dr. Askildson served as Assistant Provost and founding Director of the Center for the Study of Languages & Cultures at the University of Notre Dame where he was instrumental in the establishment of the Keough School of Global Affairs. Dr. Askildson also served as Vice-Provost and Chief International Officer at Kennesaw State University where he played a leadership role in one of the nation’s largest university mergers and implemented the university’s quality enhancement plan for reaffirmation of accreditation with SACSCOC.
Dr. Askildson is an internationally recognized scholar of second language acquisition and language learning technology as well as artificial intelligence and large language models. Dr. Askildson is the former Executive Secretary of the International Association for Language Learning Technology; the previous chair of the United Nations Institute for Training & Research regional training center in Atlanta; a trustee and board member of the Center for the Advanced Study of International Education; an emeritus board member of the federally funded Title VI National Foreign Language Resource Center based at Georgetown University; and as a United Nations Fellow with the UN Institute for Training & Research in Geneva, Switzerland. Currently, Dr. Askildson serves as Chair of the United Nations sustainability center, CIFAL Honolulu; a trustee on the Pacific Asian Affairs Council; a member of the Honolulu Consular Corps; and faculty advisor to the Chaminade Surfing Club.
