President’s Message

Over the past several months, I’ve had the privilege of visiting institutions and engaging in conversations with presidents, faculty, staff, and students across WSCUC’s membership. These conversations have deepened my appreciation for the dedication and creativity you bring to your work every day.

They have also reaffirmed our shared focus on student success. As higher education continues to evolve, WSCUC’s purpose remains constant: to assure educational quality, institutional effectiveness, and student success. Consistent with that commitment, WSCUC’s Standards Review Work Group is reviewing our 2023 Standards to ensure alignment with federal requirements and explore ways to reinforce our longstanding focus on student outcomes. The group is also identifying opportunities to remove barriers to institutional innovation so that more students can achieve their educational goals.

Looking ahead, we are pursuing several efforts to better support the institutions we serve. First, we are expanding our engagement with member institutions through enhanced learning opportunities and communication. This means more ways to share promising practices and more opportunities for dialogue and collaboration.

Second, we are reviewing our accreditation practices to confirm they remain responsive to a shifting higher education landscape, while maintaining our focus on rigor, quality, and institutional integrity.

Finally, I’m excited to announce that we will host our annual Accreditation Resource Conference in San Francisco next year with a focus on amplifying institutional impact. At ARC2026, we will come together to chart a course forward that responds to this moment of change, with institutional excellence and student success at the center.

Thank you for your partnership and for the work you do daily to support students and strengthen your institutions.

Maria Toyoda
President, WSCUC
