Karyn Scissum Gunn

Karyn Scissum Gunn, Ph.D. serves as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs division at California State University, Long Beach. With oversight authority for the division’s $310+ million total operating budget, she leads the eight colleges and university library, faculty affairs, undergraduate and graduate studies, research and sponsored programs, international programs, academic technology services, academic programs and academic planning, including academic advising. Scissum Gunn has steered research, education, training and capital funding activities that have to date generated $55 million in state and federal funding. She has engaged in regional accreditation committee service with The Southern Association on Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). She holds the BS and MS degrees in Biology from Tuskegee University and the Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from Auburn University.
